 RAKpedia's INFO

RAMADAN started on Wednesday 11th of August. Ramadan is in memory of the revelation of the Qur’an and during that month all Muslims should abstain from food, drink and smoke from dawn to dusk and be watchful of other sins.

Guidelines for Non-Muslims during Ramadan:
Do not drink, eat or smoke in public. Heavy fines might be levied on those who break this rule.
Dress and behave more conservatively.
Be more patience and do not get into arguments with those who are fasting.
Do not play loud music.
Pregnant or nursing women, children, the elderly and ill are exempted from no eating in public rule.

What to expect during Ramadan:
Companies are required to reduce working time by two hours per day for ALL employees.
Many restaurants will have special Iftar buffets where you can sample holiday food.
Government offices will close around 2pm or 3pm.
Business activities during Ramadan tend to be slow.
Most of the shops will close for the day and open only after the sunset, but their closing time will be extended to the late night hours.
All alcohol shops will be closed and no alcohol will be served in the restaurants.

WOW RAK – Ice Land Water Park, the first theme park in Ras Al Khaimah will be opened to visitors in September 2010 (on the first day of Eid). The second phase of the project, which will include a shopping mall and resort, is planned to be completed by autumn next year, and third phase with Planet Earth Theme Park should be launched in 2013.
