Ajman, located between Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain is the smallest emirate in size. The time when Ajman was a small fishing village is over, and now the city is now growing at an amazing pace, changing into a modern and progressive place. Ajman attracts investments mainly in property development and tourism. This is partially due to its close location to Dubai and Sharjah. Nevertheless, its traditional industries, such as fishing and dhow building are still kept alive. Ajman also has two inland enclaves: Masfut village (110km southeast of the city) and Manama (60km to the east).
Ajman Museum Location: near the creek, Phone: 06 7423824 It is situated in a restored 18th century fort. Once a house and office for the ruling family, later it served as the main police station for more than a decade. The museum exhibits objects that are connected to Ajman’s history, trading past and traditional life.
Harbour and Dhow Yard Location: north side of the creek The harbour is an interesting place with some sort of atmosphere of the past. You can visit a dhow yard, observe fishermen, or visit the souqs where you can buy fish, vegetables and fruits.
Mowaihat Location: outskirts of Ajman In 1986, a circular Umm al-Nar type tomb (2500 BC to 2000 BC) was accidently discovered in Mowaihat. The archaeological finds (ceramic vessels, beads, stamp seals and a number of copper implements) are on display in the Ajman Museum. |
