SERVICING AND OIL CHANGE
It is very important to find a good garage to service your car. Numerous garages are located along Oman Road and they offer general repairs and servicing. However, if you are not certain of their standards, you should use the maintenance service provided by your car dealer or try to find a good mechanic through word of mouth. Plenty of shops that sell spare parts, tyres and other car related appliances are also located along Oman Road.
Oil changes should be one of the priorities in your car maintenance, and the producer or the dealer of your car can suggest how often this should be done. Many petrol stations and most of the garages provide an oil change service. The usual price starts from about 100dhs for normal oil, up to a few hundred dirhams for a synthetic oil change. Keep in mind that the air conditioning filters in your car should also be changed annually in order to provide efficient cooling.

TYRES
Tyre checking, balancing and wheel alignment can be done at many places apart from a car’s original garage. You will find numerous tyre dealers, repair centres, etc. along Oman Road, starting from the Lantern Roundabout towards Al Nakheel, and then, towards Rams. Make sure that you receive good quality tyres and beware of extremely good deals.

CAR APPLIANCES
Wide choice of car appliances can be found in one of the shops situated along RAK Main Road or Oman Road.
If you want to tint your windows, copying many locals, keep in mind that only 30% shade is allowed, even though you may see many cars with almost completely black windows. Tinting the windows makes the interior noticeably cooler; however, some people complain that it can cause difficulties especially while driving in the dark. Costs vary from 50 to 500dhs depending on quality.
CAR WASH
Ras Al Khaimah is a sandy place, so you will probably need to clean your car at least once a week. Most of the main petrol stations have a car cleaning section where your car can be cleaned automatically or manually. Various companies around the city also provide car-cleaning services. The prices vary depending on what you want and how well you want this to be done, but expect to pay at least 20dhs for an inside-out basic cleaning, and up to 100dhs or more for a detailed manual cleaning. At some car parks near the shopping centres, you may also find brigades of workers who can clean your car on the outside for a price of 15/20dhs while you do your shopping.
CAR BREAKDOWN
A car breakdown is always a problem, especially if you are stuck in the heat or in a remote area. It is therefore important to take preventive measures. Essential things to check are a coolant to avoid overheating, tyres, batteries and a sufficient amount of petrol in your tank. Always have drinking water and a mobile phone with you. Rental companies will assist you if you are one of their customers. Otherwise, call the police if the situation is serious, or contact one of the car recovery providers.
