Other Faiths

The federal and local governments in the UAE follow a policy of tolerance toward non-Muslim religious groups, and in practice interfere very little in their religious activities. However, it is strictly forbidden to preach other faiths in public, or try to incite Muslims to convert to other religions. The government issues land-use-permits for the recognized religious denominations.

There are at least 31 Christian churches in the UAE and 2 Hindu temples in Dubai. Two of these churches, Catholic and Orthodox, are located in Ras Al Khaimah, but both are also used by other Christian faiths. Masses are held at different times of the day, usually in the early morning hours or in the evening. Schedules can be found on information boards inside the churches. Masses are usually in English, although other languages are also used.

Believers of other faiths often organize their temples and religious meetings in the private houses.
