Ras Al Khaimah has much to offer to a keen visitor who wants to get acquainted with the local history, nature and culture. Scenic wadis, the picturesque desert, ancient sites, abandoned old villages are only a few examples of what is to be seen.
All the major attractions are listed in the menu on the left side.
The streets, roundabouts and other directions are given according to their most commonly used names. For example, the road officially named Sh. Saqr Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi Road is referred to as Oman Road in this book. Note that streets may have multiple names. The road mentioned above is also known as a Rams Road or Nakheel Road.
Directions given here are approximate and 50-100m margin should be given when calculating. To get to the places of interests in Ras Al Khaimah, you need to drive a car or hire a taxi. However, remember that it is unlikely that the taxi driver will know where the archaeological findings or other attractions are. Please, refer to the MAPS section on this website for more information.
NOTE: Ras Al Khaimah has numerous attractions that have great potential of becoming the most spectacular sightseeing spots in the UAE. However, negligence and ever-present waste pollution often take away the charm of visiting places. All kinds of debris spoil the views as you drive through Ras Al Khaimah and influence the overall impression of the Emirate. Especially beaches and some of the residential areas are in desperate need of cleaning. An additional problem in the off-road areas is the number of animals’ carcasses (animals often die from swallowing plastic waste dumped around), which can impair a nice trip out. Something really needs to be done about the waste pollution before people will be discouraged to ever return to these places. |
