Snorkelling |

Since there are no coral reefs or rocky sea bottom near the coast, snorkelling is not the most popular activity in Ras Al Khaimah itself. To enjoy this sport you will have to go elsewhere. The best snorkelling conditions can be found on the East Coast of the UAE where waters are teeming with beautiful fish and coral reef.
The absolute number one spot is Snoopy Island, located between Dibba and Khor Fakkan. This island, which rather looks like a huge rock, can be reached from the shore. After paying a fee of 75dhs for a daily membership, you may use the facilities and the private beach of the Sandy Beach Hotel (09 2445555) situated just opposite the island. Snorkelling equipment is also available for rent. You can also swim to the island from the nearby public beach; this is of course free of charge. If you do not feel confident about your swimming abilities, it is probably best idea to use the boat services of the hotel.
Remember to wear more conservative swimwear on the public beach, which will not only protect you from the eyes of spectators but will also protect your skin from the sun. If you decide not to use the hotel facilities, it is also a good idea to bring some fresh water to wash the sea salt from your skin after swimming. Numerous diving centres also organize snorkelling trips to other more remote places, for more information go to the Diving part.
