Ras Al Khaimah visitors and residents have a chance to enjoy the waters of the Persian Gulf. The beaches are sandy, and usually water is clean and warm. Probably, the major drawback is the presence of jelly fish in the late spring and summer months. Jelly fish can sting, and although it is not dangerous, it can be rather unpleasant. The best remedy is vinegar poured over the irritated area.
Unfortunately, the public beaches are in need of good cleaning due to the litter accumulated. The best public beach is in the district of Dahan, just right after the Clock Roundabout if you drive from the centre. You have to remember that there are no life guards there, so if your swimming skills are rather poor do not risk entering the water.
Nevertheless, if you still want to boast that you have swum in the Persian Gulf, enjoy a clean beach and stay safe at the same time, you can use one of the private beaches of Ras Al Khaimah’s resorts, after paying the required yearly or daily membership. By subscribing to the hotels’ sports clubs, you will also be given access to the swimming pools.
Fina 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup In 2008, Ras Al Khaimah held the second round of the Fina 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup. The same event may be organized in Ras Al Khaimah in the years to come.
