One Day in Ras Al Khaimah - Itineraries

So, you have just one day in Ras Al Khaimah and you want to know how to get the best of RAK in such a short time?  This itinerary is put together to give you a chance to get a big bite out of RAK.

Early Morning

If you happen to be in Ras Al Khaimah on Friday or Saturday morning, then don’t miss a chance to see a camel race. This experience gives an opportunity not only to observe the camels, feel the excitement that accompanies the event, but also to interact with the local people.

On any other day, go to the RAK fish market. Even though it is a smelly, wet and noisy place, a visit to the market is a worthwhile event. It offers the opportunity to buy and see a variety of colourful local fish. It also gives an excellent chance to witness a vibrant and interesting part of local life.

Breakfast

Grab a bite at one of the local bakeries situated in the Old RAK City or along the RAK Main Road (all near the Boat R/A). In the morning hours, fatayes, flat breads, local pizza style breads are fresh and still hot. Order a fresh juice in Al Dahab Cafeteria, one of the oldest establishments that sell juices in Ras Al Khaimah (next to the Boat R/A).

Before Lunch

Take a look around the RAK National Museum to understand the colourful history of Ras Al Khaimah and its people. Then have a walk throughout the Old RAK area, starting from the residential area, north from the museum, and finishing with a shopping in a local souq. You can buy fabrics, perfume or gold.

Lunch

Near the Old RAK City and Boat Roundabout, there are some good local restaurants where you can try popular food such as falafel, kebab, humus or biryani. Al Sahari Restaurant, Al Comodor Flafel, or Omar Al Khayyam Restaurant are especially popular with the local people.

Afternoon

Take a short trip outside the city and see more of Ras Al Khaimah’s past. Visit Al Jazirah Al Hamra if you want to see the best preserved coastal town in the UAE, or Shimal area if you are interested in the ancient history of Ras Al Khaimah.

Dinner

Head out to one of the restaurants in Ras Al Khaimah for a pleasant dinner. You can choose an international restaurant or one of the Arabic establishments in RAK. Indian food is also an excellent and cheaper option.

Evening

Join the residents of Ras Al Khaimah and take a walk along the Corniche Road. You can be part of RAK lifestyle, have an ice cream, go for coffee, join the jogging group or just observe the people.

Night

Finish your day in one of the shisha cafes along the Corniche Road. Even if you do not smoke shisha, you can watch a football game, have a drink or snack but most of all chat with local men. You may also go up to the RAK Hotel, which also offers shisha and is the best option for women; additionally it has a great view over the city. If you are still not tired, visit a bar in one of the hotels.
